Structural Mechanics Division a two map set by Dave is posted with a 115 rating.

Think you've played this map before? Well maybe you played a map with the same name by the same author, but this is not the same map. Pass it by at your own risk!

Spq2 News

Another departure on the Spq2 review scene is Paul of AWOQ2. He has accepted the job reviewing maps for PCGamer. So far, no waord as to whether a replacement SP reviewer will be added, but the site will continue to post DM maps.

Also, DiSARMED, a new site on the scene, has moved to Frag.com and can now be found at this site. It has not closed down as I previously reported.
Thanks Guf, for the heads-up..... you idjit :)

Speaking of Guf, it seems he's really clicking along with his new team and has already produced a DM map. You can grab it over at the Fugue. His new team is currently working on a new Spq2 Unit which I have enjoyed the pleasure of doing some very minor beta work on (more like just drooling over how cool it looks). Guf and his motley band of rabid fanatics are working hard and have post proof on their new page the Fugue State. Currently there are 2 DM maps available for download. Based on what I've seen of the SP work - I think we all have something excellent to look forward to.

Yet more news, as Akuma has moved to a new URL, which can be found here.

I have updated my SPQ2 Links accordingly.

A Special Report

I have recently recieved a gift far beyond my wildest imaginings. From the enigmatic workshops of the ubiquitous Mr. Mike Fitzsimmons comes a rare treasure. Tucked away in his magic forest and likely laboring on it for years, Mike has recently presented me with a pencil holder crafted with exquisite attention to detail. This majestic tribute to the perseverance of the human spirit now rests in a placed of honor near my PC. It performs it's task with quiet stoicism and unsurpassed dignity. I am humbled to have in my possession such an artifact. I am truly blessed...

Two more casualties in the world of Spq2 as long time favorite The Quake Map Hotel run by the awesome Mr. Eric Sutton (who produced the fine graphics for my site) is closing it's doors. Head on over to read Eric's final words, and his thoughts on putting together a different type of site. Farewell Igor!

Yes - I am still alive and well. I have simply been burned out by 6 months of posting an update nearly every day, and reviewing somewhere in the realm of 175 maps in that time. I have decided to take a short vacation from the site - which I began Saturday after posting the Jedi Knight review. It simply got to a point where my reviews were more work than they were fun. I haven't touched an FPS since Sunday, but have instead been spending my time with Age of Empires - an excellent RTS game. Earlier today I felt my first real urge to play some FPS in quite a long time, so before long I will be posting an Spq2 map that I have on hand, and perhaps and Unreal map or two. I have decided to no longer review any Jedi Knight maps. I will leave the existing maps up as an archive, but not longer post new JK reviews. Be patient, and keep checking back - I'm not going anywhere! :)

Site News

I have finally finished updating all of my level links so that every map on this site should be properly connected. Please, if anyone attempts to download a map and gets an error, send me the map name and the error message. I can fix any broken links - but only if I know about them.

I am currently working on a review of a large and ambitious Jedi Knight level. It's taking up most of my time, but should be posted by late today. I also have a few Unreal projects on the back burner, and an Spq2 surprise or two as well. So, keep surfing this way, there are plenty of new goodies on the horizon... mmmmmm-hmmmmm......

You want updates? We got updates! That's right, I've got a giant warehouse over here just filled to the brim with more updates than you can shake a stick at! Yeah, I know I've been a bit slow lately, but I've got the urge and the energy surge at the moment, so I'm gonna slop as many reviews up as I can while the buzz holds out --- stay tuned.

Snaz-o-Tourium gone?!? Yep, siting limited free time as the reason for the shut-down, Snaz-o-Tourium has closed it's doors putting several employees out of work. Not a total loss however, as Ian has left a farewell message pointing out that a new site will emerge from the ashes that will be Quake related, but not review levels. Why don't all of you who have enjoyed Ian's maps and site drop him a line and thank him for all that he contributed to the community. Take care Ian, and thanks for all the help you gave me when I was just starting out in Spq2 reviews!

What the??

Yeah, OK - first my update time Java goes wacky on me, and now my BeSeen counter has reset itself for no reason I know of. I sent a letter over to the good people at BeSeen and am hoping for a fix soon.

The Friendly Site Readers Brigade

Thanks goes out to Guy Harris for his cool insights and critical evaluations about Spq2 challenge - and to Ken Hee for the killer suggestion that I add the filename to my tables where I organize my maps. Ken's idea will be put into use when I make the move into Half Life mayhem. Thanks guys!

OK - I lied. I didn't get several reviews done, as I had intended. I am working on them - but keep encountering roadblocks. I sat down to review part 2 of a JK map, only to discover I had to re-play part 1 to get to part 2. I sat down to review an Spq2 map, and spent an hour working on it - but couldn't figure out how to finish it (I'm still trying!). I sat down to review an Unreal map - and it turns out to be a series of complex puzzles (SPULH posted a review of it without even finishing the map!) that are very time consuming. So please, I beg of you, have mercy! I have not stopped work on the site, it's just that the maps I've been getting lately require a lot more work than most. It took me over 3 hours to review Arctic Base because of the difficulty and the bugs. Be patient - I will be back :)

Hi everyone. Yes, I'm still alive and evaluating maps. I'm currently working on at least one map for each game. For reasons that you will understand once I post the reviews - this particular batch is taking a painfully long time to review. Sorry for the lengthy silence, but expect another update by Saturday at the latest. -Tron

Mr. 20,000

Congratulations go out to Mr. Darryl Ross, the official 20,000th visitor to 3D Gamer's Edge. He will be sent a a package of mayhem and lunacy that is only befitting someone who visits my site. I'd like to thank all of you people who visit and enjoy this site. I can well remember when I had to struggle to get 15 hits per day, and my site had those ugly old graphics that some no-talent amateur spent 12 hours creating. Thanks to everyone: your support, e-mails, and visits keep me interested enough in the site and the community to continue working.

Am I Back????

Greetings one and all. Well, it appears that all of my Internet sevices are back to 100%. For those interested here's the explaination: on Friday (7-31-1998) morning, my IP suffered a series of problems, the worst being a severe crash of one of their hard-drives. It took them until now to sort out each of the problems, and restore all of the files from the crashed drive. It just so happened that the drive that took the dive was the one with all of their members webpages on it. So, if you were unable to access this site (possibly getting a File Not Found The requested URL /~solosoul/index.html was not found on this server error), you are not alone, the site was indeed gone could not be accessed by anyone, not even me. Now the site appears to be back to normal, and there has been one day of steady access. I was unable to connect to the site via FTP until this morning, which is why it took me so long to post this update. What does all of this mean to you? Why, it of course means that you can expect upadates (hi Knooplie!) to begin again, and everything should be back to normal. Thanks to everyone who sent kind e-mail and/or posted news of this on their webpage, I appreciate all of the concern!

First off, a big apology to everyone who was unable to access this site over the past two days. Once again, my IP is having all kinds of problems. Things still are not running properly, so I'm going to sneak this update in while I can. This seems to be happening quite a bit since Harborcom was bought out by Qualnet, and if it continues I will be searching for a new home on the net. ALSO: if anyone has sent me mail between Friday morning and now, please send it again later, as no mail was recieved (or could be sent) durning this time. As I post this update (Satuirday August 1, 12:01am) I still cannot send or recieve mail, so please be patient! Oh, and Kneel --- yes, this is all an elaborate ploy so that I can avoid sending you e-mail this weekend :) You silly git.

In other news...

As you may have noticed, CDROM has altered the format of their archive. This may cause problems when you try and download maps from this site. I am working to correct the problem. All newly posted maps will be OK, and I have currently updated my archives through the 'R' maps. I'm nearly finished now, thank heavens...

This has nothing to do with gaming, but I feel a need to share my opinion. I went out last night and saw Saving Private Ryan. This was simply the most powerful and amazing film I have ever seen. I strongly urge each and every one of you to go out, spend the $7, and see this film in a theater with good sound (DTS or THX). I came out of the theater feeling like I could finally understand the hell that war is, and I gained a strong appreciation for every human being who has ever been involved in such an experience. This is powerful stuff, the kind of film that has me looking at life through new eyes. Go see it.
