Spq2 News

I have heard of a product for sale at CompUSA, CompCity, and other locations called Q2 FILES: 100 add-ons. or something like that. It is nothing more the 80% DM and 20% Spq2 maps, which were snagged off the net, and are a couple of months old. So, why bother? Especially with all the fine sites reviewing and providing free maps out there (and in here!). Save your cash, and don't get ripped off. Thanks DarGar.

The Snaz-O-Tourium has a new reviewer, Darryl Ross, who is performing the DM map reviews.

Wow! 10,000 visitors already, who'd have thunk it? I'd like to take all the credit for the amazing respose to this site, but must acknowledge the real reason behind my success. Thanks to crash, Igor, and Lt. Dan, the guys who used their considerable influence and skills to not only help me make my site the best it can be, but for helping to direct a flow of traffic to these pages. Also to Guf, Akuma, and SnAz, for additional support, promotions, and just being a great bunch of guys. Thanks everyone... and to hell with no SP in QA... we'll have plenty to do and a lot more fun in the future, despite being snubbed by id!!

Oh... and speaking of the Lt., it just so happens he was visitor 10,001, and sent a screenshot to prove it... but who was # 10,000??? It remains a mystery, as no one has claimed this incredible accomplishment as of yet. Well.... WHO WAS IT?

Good old ramblin' Guf has posted some very interesting thoughts on Quake Arena over at his musical site: The Fugue. Nice read, check it out.

Surprising news, as Matt Sefton has shut down his Single Player Level Heaven. Congrats to Matt on the upcoming new addition to his family! The Level Heaven will now remain on-line as an archive only, and no longer be updated.

Get well soon tidings to Lt. Dan of Lt. Dan's Spq2. Seems a bit of an injury has temporarily sidelined him, but I'm sure he'll be back in the game soon.

After putting a great deal of thought into it, I have decided to eliminate the Powershpere Quest map from my archives. It occured to me that the map was in reality not an Spq2 map, but actually a co-op map. While it truly was a high quality experience, my rating was based upon what I assumed gameplay would be like in Co-op mode, and did not reflect my actual experiences in single-player mode. Due to these problems, I thought the best course of action was to remove it from my archives.

Quake3 RIP

Yes, it's true. If you haven't heard, John Carmack announced in his most recent .plan that there will be no Quake3, but instead the new game from id will be called Quake Arena and focus on multiplayer, with no single player game included. For a guy like me, that's just too darn bad. Here's a tiny e-mail conversation I had with Mr. Carmack:

Tron: Although I can understand your decision to abandon the single player game in Q3, I must say I'm very disappointed. As the webmaster at an Spq2 review site, I play quake2 only for the single player experience. Deathmatch is of no interest to me.

J.C.: We just thought it was time to go in a little different direction. There didn't seem to be much excitement internally about another single player game.

Tron: RIP Q3, I hope this isn't a new trend for id, and that you return to the SP genre sometime in the future :(

J.C.: We worked hard on making Q2 our best single player game, now we want to try and make our best multi player game. What we do after that will depend largely on how well QA is received.

FINALLY! I have a few new maps coming soon...

Spq2 News

Yes, it's true. Snaz Spq2 has crashed and burned... However, out of the ashes a new creation has risen. The new Snaz-O-Tourium will still feature Spq2 reviews, however they will have to share the limelight with Snaz's new additions. This includes DM map reviews, expanded editing and MOD news, Quake2 pictures, and a Level Design Article Vault, which is similar to the CRON over at Fugue. Go give it a look!

Jedi Knight Reviews

I have cleaned up my Jedi Knight single player level reviews section, so that it is now on par with the Q2 and Unreal portions of this site. No new JK levels have been posted, but I will be getting some new maps posted over the next week or so. I had given up on user created JK maps, due to the poor quality of the levels I played. However, some new releases have been really quite interesting and creative, and I have decided to re-open the Jedi doorway. I also plan to update my Links section to include some Jedi Knight related links. If anyone has any JK related links they would like to see posted, feel free to mail me your submissions.
