Spq2 level reviews

Here it is folks, the level I've been beta-testing. it's the sequel to Phil Abbott's Cheops Tomb, and it's a great play. Cheops Revenge by Phil (philfox) Abbott is posted with a 99 rating. Visit Phil's homepage here: Philfox's Quake levels

New things on the way

Hello! i just thought i'd pop in and keep you all informed as to my current status. i have been extremely busy over the last two weeks doing a lot for work for my RL(tm) job. that, coupled with the upgrades going on here at PQ have kept me from updating the site over the last two weeks. also - i am doing some extensive beta-testing on a sequel to a level i posted recently - a level which got a rather favorable review. moments ago i sent a letter to the author with my suggestions, and i await his reply. hopefully, the level will be available in approx. a week - so stay tuned for some new spq2 goodness on the way.

as you may have noticed, this website (and the rest of planetquake as well) has been popping in and out of existance over the past two weeks. the reason for this is that the gamespy network is undertaking a massive upgrade to their systems. while it may be inconvenient for now, once everything has been smoothed out you should all notice a very substantial increase in the speed of this website. everything should load up much quicker, and file downloads should also be a lot speedier. with that in mind, these temporary problems should be of no concern to you at all!

spq2 level reviews

sorry i didn't get as many new reviews posted this week as i had originally intended, but i was stricken with a very bad cold that knocked me out for one whole day (yeah, i got to spend an entire day of my holiday vacation lying on the couch), and it's still affecting me today. however, i am a bit more chipper and energetic today than i have been all week - so here are some new reviews for you!

happy new year!

i hope everyone had a great (and safe) holiday season! i personally was showered with far more gifts than i deserved by my very wonderful family, and i ate more good food over the past 2 weeks than i had in the previous 2 months. i'd like to take a moment and say that i hope all of you are very thankful for all the good things you have in your life. there are plenty of people out in the world who are suffering and have less than you do. i hope each of you took at least a moment to try and help out those less fortunate than yourselves over the holidays. christmas is all about giving.

btw, i am off of work all of next week, so i'll get some more maps posted before y2k wipes out the internet.

working away

i really don't know what has gotten into me - but i have been playing more spq2 than i have in well over a year, and it's really a lot of fun. while i may not pump out 5 reviews every weekend (like last weekend), i think it's safe to say that you can expect to see me reviewing more frequently than i have in a long time. i'm sure to have at least one new review posted this weekend, maybe more. stay tuned, and i'll be back later today.

today's odd fact

cleaning up the place (part 2)

general repairs continue, and i got some good work done today. if you are a map author, or anyone in general who wants to email me, *please* be sure to read my freshly updated email page. it is chock full of new information, as well as good old-fashioned whole-grain goodness. also, if you are one of the legions of people who wants to know how to run PAK style map files, please be sure to read my newly updated faq page, which can be easily accessed through my email page. i have been several times complimented for what many have called the "best and easiest ever" instructions for getting PAK files to run - so have a look if you have any questions or problems with that sort of thing. if anyone has any comments to make about the new look of the site (good or bad or indifferent {indifferent people often mail me blank mail}), please feel free to send them along.

also, i have started the long and arduous process of fixing up my old review pages to make them every bit as spiffy as the new style. so far i have finished one page. my plan is to start with the highest rated maps (the ones most frequently accessed), and work my way down. i will probably never finsh, but it'll be fun for me to see how far i get before i get distracted by the dancing gnome who lives under my kitchen sink...

if all goes well, i'll have a new map or two posted this weekend.

cleaning up the place

hello folks... it's been a while since i've walked the corridors here at the edge, but for some reason today i got a bit of energy and decided to do some work on the old place. over the years my idea of what a nice looking website is has changed, and i never was really in love with the old look anyway, so i decided to make some adjustments. no major overhaul or redesign, but some aesthetic changes mostly relating to text color and size. i should also soon have updated e-mail and faq pages posted which will more accurately reflect the current state of the edge (it's only fair that i warn everyone of my infrequent updates). in the meanwhile, i hope you all prefer the new look, and enjoy the quick and fun new spq2 map i have available.
be well

review update

Yeah, I know... I've been lazy/busy =)

Here are the facts: That new Unit I've been talking about IS still coming. The author finished working on fixing the little buggies in it a few weeks ago, but I have been insanely busy with real life. So - here's the deal, I should have it posted this weekend. I have already uploaded it, and have reviewed over half of the maps in the Unit. I've got a busy weekend in store for me, but I really want to get this map out already, so I expect to finish it up by late tomorrow, or sometime Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best... I'll do my darndest to deliver the goods. Stay Tuned....

review update

Well, it turns out that the author of the project I've been talking about has decided to pull back and make some changes that will improve gameplay. I'm working on it with him, and I should have my part of the work done before this weekend is over. Since the author is very eager to get this project out to the public, I'm sure that he'll have it ready to go shortly thereafter. So - what does this mean to you, the eager SPQ2 fanatic? It means the project isn't ready yet, but should be within a few days.

update...

Just a quick note to let you all know the YES, I am still working on that review I promised Saturday. A few issues came up that I had to work out with the author, so the review will be a bit later than I had originally thought. As long as I face no new obstacles, the review should appear within the next few days. This Friday at the latest. I'll check back with you if I am faced with any more delays.

Here are a few tidbits of info to keep you all anticipating this new review... First, I have so far taken over three pages of notes with my review (about 7 times more than normal) and I'm still not done. Second, the file is huuuge - over 20meg. Third, the project draws influences from Unreal, Half-Life, and Classic Quake. Fourth, I haven't had this much fun playing Q2 in months. Fifth, it's coming soon!

i'm back!

Hiya everyone... I just thought I'd pop in and say HI! For those of you who still check out this news page, or for any of you first time readers, I thought I'd let you all in on a little secret. I'm going to be posting a review rather soon, as in within the next few days. If you love Single Player Quake2, then you will NOT want to miss out, so keep checking back and get ready for an SPQ2 feast. =)

what's this??? an update!?!?!

Hiya everybody! Well, it seems I lied. Yep - I said I wouldn't update this ol' website anymore, but I wasn't telling the whole truth. It seems that some guy I know released some maps or something, and welp - I felt obligated to review them. So, if you'll just mosey on down to the review below this here paragraph, you can see for yourself just what it took to get me out of hibernation and post my first real update since December 1998. I hope you all enjoy it.... and who knows... I just might pop back in here from time to time and surprise you!
