final update

Well, as I'm sure you all have guessed by now - I will no longer be updating this website.

This wasn't an easy decision to make, which is why I have been putting it off for so long. I honestly believed that I would regain my original enthusiasm, and get back into the usual updating frenzy that made my site what it was. However, it just never happened. I have lost my interest in Quake2, the decline began at the time that Q3 was announced to have no single player game, and it has increased ever since. Having reviewed hundreds of maps, and gained more exposure than I ever imagined possible, I have accomplished everything I set out to do. I felt I had something to contribute to the community of Quake fanatics, and I hope that all of you enjoyed visiting and downloading maps from this site as much as I enjoyed writing the reviews and updating it. I am really overwhelmed and thankful for all of the support I got from my visitors, map authors, and other members of the map-review community. The best part of this whole experience was meeting so many great people, and for that I will be forever thankful. It's been fun, but the time is here to close the doors. The site will remain in place for as long as the good people at PlanetQuake see fit to leave it here - and I hope it will serve as a respectable archive for those of you who are just beginning to delve into the world of Single Player Quake2 add-on maps. Thanks everyone, and farewell!

tron talk

Umm... OK.... lets see if I remember how to do this... update, that is. I know it's been a long time - and the first thing I want to do is appologize to al of you loyal visitors of the Edge. I was amazed to see that a steady stream of you people still visit my site every day despite the fact that I haven't updated in nearly a month now. This update is for you. So, why haven't I been updating with my usual tenacity? Well, a variety of reasons actually. First and foremost is the fact that life has been harsh for me lately. I won't go into gory detail, but suffice it to say that I've been under some very severe stress for most of 1998, and it has been getting even worse of late. The next reason is the simple fact that Quake2 just isn't as exciting as it once was. After reviewing literally hundreds of .BSP's over the past 9 months, it's become almost more work than fun to review all of these maps. Then there's the fact that I've been discovering the joy of other games such as Half Life, Diablo, Hellfire, 3D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, and a few others. So, what does the future hold? I'm not sure right now. I'm not ready to close this thing down just yet. But, I'm not going to updating as feverishly as I once did either. You'll notice that this update isn't on par with what I normally produce. Several maps are available for download without any review... So, I guess I'll leave it at: Lets see... Lets wait and see what the future brings to the Edge, and to me... Time will tell.

spq2 maps

The following maps are available for download - without a review. I want the map authors to know that my lack of a review is not any indication of my like/dislike or respect for the work - I just simply never completed the maps or produced a review. It doesn't mean anything personal - it's just my own lethargy and disinterest.

The Rat, a 3 map set. 1,509K

Space Odysseys 2, a Unit. 2,418K

The Ulysses Project, a Unit. 5,416K

I may review these maps sometime in the future...

spq2 news

Well - I can't say that this comes as a surprise to me, but it's too bad nonetheless. crash over at crash's Spq2 has closed his doors for good. The site remains as an archive of his brilliant work - but there will be no future updates. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - crash was the best. His procedures and reviews are second to none - and he is responsible for my own high standards, and many of my own procudures and techniques. Not to fear - crash will still be around, he is currently reviewing full games for Gamer's Alliance, which is a very good site. I've also heard rumors of appearances over on PlanetCrap, though I have not verified the sitings at this time. Personally, I'm happy for crash - this is his chance to prove to the rest of the world what we knew all along: that he is the best. Good luck crash, I hope you prosper over at Gamer's Alliance, which, as the title implies, is an alliance of gamers. :)

3D gamers half life edge??

It's here! That's right, I've finished fixing up the place and I'm now ready to have guests! My all new site 3D Gamers Half Life Edge can be found at this URL: http://www.halflife.org/3dhledge/. Feel free to stop on over and get aquainted. It's almost exactly like this site, which should make things easier for me and you. There's not a lot of content right now - but expect an interview series to begin soon.

big news!!

There's a new site on the Net, and it's name is Yello There. Sometimes good things DO happen to good people. It seems that the enigmatic Kneel of Katalystic Media has gotten a break. His hilarious spoof of BluesNews, which he calles Yello There has found a host and is now a stand alone entity. The site had been fitted with great new graphics, and an easy to use layout. Fans of gaming and satire will surely get a million laughs, as Kneel has razor sharp wit and can bring even the most cynical person to tears of laughter. Be sure to stop by and check out Yello There. You will be glad you did. And, be sure to stop by Katalystic Media to hear Kneel break the news to you in his own words.

radio show

Once more, I highly recommend you head over to SPEW and see what Desiato has to say. He posts a new show every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so you can expect new stuff later today!

I got this letter from Stephen Peterson of the Quake Palace today:
"This is Stephen "eXodus" Peterson from 3D Map Realm, a new Single Player map review site located at http://3dmr.gamedesign.net."
It seems that he is undertaking reviews of games other than Quake2, and I suggest you head on over and see what this fine citizen has to offer you.

my big news

For those of you who didn't go see what Dennis Bear had to say about my news, here it is. I have been picked up by HalfLife.org and will soon be opening a new site that will review user-created single player Half Life maps. The site will be called 3D Gamers Half Life Edge, and the URL will be http://www.halflife.org/3dHLedge. I am not posting a link to it right now - because it does not yet exist. I hope to have it up and running by the time the game is released to the public. Stay tuned for further info.

radio show

Recently I have come across a site which features the talents of a certain Desiato. It's a RealPlayer audio show that is informative, fun, and insightful. I highly recommend you head over to SPEW and see what your host has to say about FPS gaming, industry news, Internet happenings, and the wonderful world of crustacean behavior patterns. He's got a good voice and personality for his chosen manner of communication - and I suggest you go and give a listen. Tell him Tron sent ya!

broken link fix

My link to the map Nailbomb by Jason Fink was broken, but the map has now been uploaded to my ftp and is once more available for download.

silence....

Yes, I know - a 2 week stretch without an update from me is a new record, and not one that I'm particularly proud of. My new job is rather demanding, and I've been working on a few surprises. Here's the deal, I will be posting another update later today, with some new maps - and I will also post a few more updates this weekend. I do have new stuff, and it will be coming to you very soon now! Sorry for the huge delay.

something new is coming!

Here's a teaser for some big news that I am working on right now: Are you interested in Half Life? Well, so am I... very interested... Stay tuned as later today I will make the big announcement. Or - you can check out Katalystic Media where Dennis Bear will also be making the announcement, and I think he'll have the news before I get around to printing it. So - if you are impatient, go see what Dennis has to say on the News page at Katalystic Media later today.
