Ground Zero Secret Level!

I have uncovered a secret level in the new Rogue Quake2 Mission Pack: Ground Zero. Here are directions to help you find the secret level, READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW! The secret level is located in the first Unit, in the third map titled Tectonic Stabalizer. In this level you must throw a series three switches, and once the third switch is thrown, a 45 (I think it's 45) second countdown begins, and you must exit the level (return to the Thaelite Mines) before the end of the countdown, or be killed in a violent explosion. Now, in the area which contains the Tectonic Stabalizer itself, there is a large pipe with a light over it. Once the countdown begins, a section of the pipe bursts open, allowing the player to jump inside. This is the entrance to the secret level titled Mine Engineering. If you scroll down this news page to Friday, September 11th, there is a screenshot of the area in which the pipe is located. It's that large blue device in the pool of lava. That is the area with the pipe that leads to the secret level. Good luck!

Spq2 Author Site Grand Opening! - Katalystic Media

Spq2 author Kneel has opened his homepage to the public. It's titled Katalystic Media and I highly recommend you go have a look. Be sure to read his MISC. section for a hilarious spoof on BluesNews called "Yello There", a Very Unofficial Unreal FAQ, and the incredible reviews of the mysterious Captain Gloop. Also included are Editorials about the 3D gaming community, a lot of Unreal bashing, information about Kneel's upcoming Quake2 Unit (Pharm 2: Spatial Awareness), and a whole lot more. There is a broken .jpg link or two right now - but the site is brand new, and Kneel is still learning the craft of HTML coding, so stop on by and prepare to laugh your arse off! I'm somewhat of a cynic, and his sharp satire got me literally laughing out loud - very funny stuff.

Unreal?

A lot of you have asked me questions about Unreal maps. Well, I am unofficially 'on strike' against Unreal until the often rumored, but nowhere-to-be-seen Super-Ultra-Mega-Patch arrives. Since it's supposed to improve framerates, fix all the little bugs (CenterView!!!), and solve world hunger, I'm going to hold out until it arrives (and works) before I do any more Unreal reviews. Quake2 is the focus of this site, and will remain so, but occasional Unreal reviews will occur, once the patch is out.

Jedi Knight?

Though no one has asked, I'll let you know that my Jedi Knight section is merely an archive. I had to remove JK from my hard drive for space reasons, and will likely not review any new JK maps. However, if I get word of a truly spectacular JK map, I *might* decide to reinstall JK just to review it - but I make no promises.

Thanks!

Thanks go out to all of my visitors yesterday... all 3,217 of you! I'm overwhelmed by the support. Thanks also to those who took the time to send in letters, I appreciate the feedback. Also thanks to everyone who already updated their Links, I really appreciate your help.

Tron Talk

Greetings all, and welcome to 3D Gamers Edge!

For those of you who are not familiar with this site, here's the lowdown. Though I'm new to PlanetQuake, this site has been operational since March 1st, 1998. Over that time I've reviewed over 135 Spq2 maps. My objective is to provide in-depth, quality reviews of every Spq2 map I can get my virtual hands on, and post them as quickly as possible. I've attempted to organize this site in a manner that will provide the greatest convenience to my readers. Levels are archived both alphabetically and in order of my rating, as well as a listing of the 10 newest maps posted here at my site. On my News page I provide information about new postings, news about other Spq2 review sites, ocassional inane ramblings, a Daily Quote, and other related mayhem. I try and update on a daily basis, though it usually averages out to an update every other day or so. So, you may as well stop reading this drivel, and start exploring the glorious wonder that is 3D Gamer's Edge!!

To my regular visitors. First, THANK YOU! Your massive and overwhelming support has enabled me to gain this new postion in the world of Quake. So, why the move? Well, after recent problems with the buyout of my IP, I got to thinking. What happens if I switch IP's? What of the future of 3D Gamers Edge? The only logical solution was to move to a secure and stable host. PlanetQuake is obviously an excellent choice. Nothing about my site is going to change because of this move. The ad banner on my main page will be the only difference. So, please update those bookmarks and links, and everything is going to run smoothly from now on.

I'm very excited about this move to PlanetQuake, and I'd like to offer a big THANKS to Mr. Joost Schuur. This move was very sudden and more than a bit hurried, and Joost went out of his way to see that the move went quickly and efficiently. Thanks a lot Joost!

Please send all site related mail to my new email address: Tron@planetquake.com

Ground Zero [updated at 5:45 GMT-4]

Have had a chance to play through the majority of the first Unit now... And, I'm extremely impressed! On par with Reckoning so far, and I can't seem to stop playing :] If the MP can maintain this level of quality throughout, then it's sure to be a winner. I've decided to try my hand at reviewing this entire MP, but I likely won't be posting the review for a few weeks, as I want to be thorough.

It's out. It's in stores NOW. I bought my copy at Electronics Boutique in northeast Ohio just a few hours ago. I've yet to play very much, but from what I've seen it looks good. The new Strogg AI is immediately evident as Flyers were strafing me, and the Enforcers are a bit more mobile when they attack. Below is a screenshot of the opening level "The Lower Mines", (sounds familiar), and another shot from the "Tectonic Stabilizer". Good lookin' stuff!

Yakkity Yak

Hi everyone! Hope Neil's Dry Gulch has been keeping you busy, but for the Q2 junkies who have already found every secret, explored every dimly lit passage, and are in need of more - More - MORE... well, I'm working on a massive 8 map Unit right now. To pique your interest (as if the thought of 8 new maps isn't enough), I'll drop this on you - the author is one of the higher rated authors at this site, and being 5 maps into the Unit I can say that chances are he'll take a nice step up the ratings ladder once this Unit is posted for download. Since Ground Zero should be out this Saturday, I'll try and have the review posted by early Saturday at the latest. That way the Unit will keep you busy until MP2 hits the shelves. Thanks for stopping by - and remember, brush your teeth and eat your broccoli if you want to grow up and be healthy like David Hasselhoff. Is that how you spell his name? Hmmmm... I'm not quite motivated enough to go and look it up. :]
