MINUSES SUMMARY
The follow up to FOE1 is here already, and it continues the story without a pause. You'll start off exactly where FOE1 ended, and the plot unfolds as you must attempt to locate an agent and use his fingerprints to bypass the security system of the mansion where this level takes place. While not as all-out in-your-face action-packed as FOE1, FOE2 is still packs a punch and will put you to the test. Once more it's not a question of facing the most powerful Strogg, but rather utilizing some of the low end weapons effectively. As in FOE1, weapon and ammo placement is near perfect, and health is scarce enough to make the going tough. Considering that this all takes place in and around a mansion, there is an amazing amount of variety in locales. The layout is well done, and I actually got lost in the place. As you make your way around the map, you'll be presented with plenty of visual entertainment. You'll witness some very nicely crafted furniture, really cool bathrooms, a grand piano, a courtyard, a limo, and plenty more. The mansion's owner is obviously a huge fan of Classic Quake, as the artwork will attest to. Gameplay is far from linear, and you'll be able to roam most of the level at will right from the start. As you accomplish your goal, and reach the end of the map, the pace picks up considerably. The mansion theme is all but left behind as you enter a well crafted control room, packed with excellent battle sequences. And when you see the amount of detail put into the means of reaching Force of Evil 3 (still forthcoming), you are sure to be impressed. I was unable to dredge up any real complaints about the map.... it's a bit blocky in areas - but it is an Earth house after all, so what can you expect? Bottom line: while not as innovative and pulse pounding as FOE1, FOE2 delivers a good quality experience with enough extras to push it over the top.
