MINUSES SUMMARY
Well, this map came as both a surprise and a treat. Marty Howe has been devoting his talents to Unreal maps for the past few months, but he's back in the Spq2 limelight with this new release: Full Contact. What an approprite name for this map. Brutal, and I do mean brutal Strogg placements make for a very visceral experience. The map is compact, very tight, and throws wave after wave of Strogg in your path. You begin with the SuperShotgun in your hands, and later get the Chaingun, and that's all you'll ever get. The only Strogg you see will be Guards, Gunners, and Tanks. It's a no BS experience, no keys to find, no levers to push, just run-and-gun. And it works perfectly. Marty has placed the Strogg so perfectly that even though there is more than enough shotgun ammo lying around - this is a very difficult map. By clumping Guards with Guards, Gunners with Gunners, and Tanks with Tanks, there isn't much Strogg in-fighting to help you along. Simply put, this is high quality action that will challenge even the most skilled DeathMatch addict. If it's a mad fight to the death with the Strogg you crave, then this map delivers. The architecture is pretty impressive as well. Seems that lately map authors fancy themselves to be artists as well as game designers, and I couldn't be more pleased. This map features some incredible use of geometry, with eye-catching sharp angles, and attractive texture choices. A great combo of eye-candy and minimalistic design, plus: the low R_speeds will let this map run smooth on most any box. The only thing in the map I could find to gripe about was an area where I ran into some clipping troubles, and had to NOCLIP my way out. The bottom line here is action. This map will satisfy any craving for Strogg warfare, and there's a very fun surprise ending as well. It scared the heck outta me :]
