MINUSES SUMMARY
It's been a full eight months since Kurt's first Spq2 release KSP70. As he states in his .txt file, he scraps over half of what he creates, which is a real shame for us players. KSP70 was ahead of it's time, displaying terrific layout, and brutal challenge that other maps at the time couldn't touch. I rated this map a bit lower than his first, not because the map is worse (it's better), but because cureent expectations are higher. Reciprocity is a well designed map. The architecture is fairly simple, but is well accented with pipes and cropped corners to make it aesthetically pleasing, not blocky. Texture choice is really nice, although I'm biased toward Kurt's particular choices. I always liked that clean yet weathered look, and this map pulls it off perfectly well. The layout is a big plus. Great use of vertical space eliminates any possibility of the 'running from room to hallway to room' syndrome. The map plays almost as if you are inside a series of intricately connected towers. Use of keys keeps player progression in check, but doesn't make the map feel too linear. The challenge is very high, mostly due to limited ammo, health, and firepower. Strogg are well placed, and this is a machinegun/shotgun affair for 90% of the level. Some of my favorite action, that. As for my complaints... the only real one I could find was that the architecture is a tad bit on the repetitive side. Nothing aweful, but more variety would have been nice. To have rated higher, I'd have liked to see a few surprises in this level. The whole map is well done, and very good, but needed a spark or two to make it a standout. A triggered event, rotating brushes, or a nice architectural centerpeice would have been nice. All in all, it's a good time to be had, and well worth the download time.
