MINUSES SUMMARY
This map is vastly superior to it's predecessor Old Storage Area (1). It is similar enough that it almost seems to have evolved from the previous map. Once more it is a Strogg Storage facility you must make your way through, but this time there is plenty of variety. The gameplay takes place both in and around the facility, making for a greater sense of place, and providing the player with differing arenas in which to battle the Strogg. The layout is a bit bland: very linear, very horizontal, and not much by way of exploration. The architecture helps make up for this shortcoming, with a very nice crane construct, a cool exit portal, and attention to details that catch the eye, and make for a nice backdrop. Action is the main feature in this level - plenty of action. You face one Strogg after another, and you're given minimal weapon support to defend yourself with. As I play more and more Q2, I've really come to appreciate a map that can give me just a shotgun and provide a challenge. There's something very satisfying about battling Enforcers and Gunners with that shotgun that I just love - and this map provides a healthy dose of just that type of gameplay. The challenge begins on high, but gets a bit easier as the map progresses and you get the Super Shotgun. The final battle was a bit simple, all I had to do was circle-strafe the boss with the chaingun, and he went down quickly enough. On the negative side: the map is quite small, and over too quickly. The basic layout was a turn-off, and the map could use more frills or exploration. A few of the meaner Strogg would've been nice as well (were was my pal the Gladiator?!?). The moving architecture was a welcome change over OSA1, but the map still needed more extras and more complex layout to get the Seal of Approval award. Bottom line: a nice looking map that will satisfy your craving for Strogg attack action, but lacking in a few areas.
