I liked this. A novel concept. This level takes place immediately before the start of the Q2 full game. The idea is that you are to sneak into a base on Stroggos the morning before the full scale attack, disable a radar tracking computer, and plant an airstrike marker to guide a Marine pod to the base's location. The map takes place partially within the base1 map of the full game, but the main gameplay occurs in parts of the base never seen in the original maps, since you approach the base from the rear. This map and the original base map are blended smoothly together, and the theme is held very nicely. The lay-out is quite complex and varied considering it all takes place within the base. Outdoor areas merge very smoothly with the indoor areas, and there is a definite feeling of progression and accomplishment. The action is really the focus of the gameplay. Strogg are placed very well, and items are distributed fairly and evenly. Although near the end I did have an overabundance of ammo. The fight sequences are scripted well, and provide top-notch action and challenge, but never become overwhelming. There's not a lot to write about this map, as it is so similar to the original Q2 base maps. I couldn't find any flaws to complain about, and barring a few minor discrepancies, the map could almost be an actual intro to the full game. A highly recommended experience, and it left me hungry for more.
