MINUSES SUMMARY
I know that everyone out there in this small Spq2 community of ours will bash me for this, but I simply didn't enjoy this level. My biggest frustration was the first few minutes of the map. On Skills 1 and 2, I found myslef in a combat situation that I really don't enjoy: I'm in a narrow corridor, or on a narrow walkway (no room to move) and I'm being attacked from several different directions at once. I do not enjoy being stuck in a narrow tunnel when a parasite is spawned at my back just as a Gunner appears in front of me. This happened a lot in the first map (this is a 2 map set), and I really had no fun at all with it. The only solution for me was to play the map on Skill 0, which made the other areas of the map too easy. This made the gameplay flow very uneven. Don't get me wrong, this is no terrible creation overall. In fact, Neil has produced another highly creative map, that sports a good solid story, and a lot of humor (I *loved* my air support man, Dale). The architecture is some of the best I've seen Neil produce, especially in the first map where the front of the compound (see screenshot) is particularly well crafted. The second map features some amazing layout, but the combination of wood and stone seemes to be in stark contrast with some of the technological items (such as the handprint switch in the wall). It's really hard for me to write this review, since I had to play on Skill 0, which wasn't a lot of fun. I guess, that if given my wishes, I'd have rather that this map started in front of the compound area, where I could have played on Skill 2 and enjoyed it. I'm just not a fan of narrow corridor/walkway fighting.
