There is a major bug in this map, which will require you to perform the following instructions. After unzipping the map, you need to launch UnrealED and open the map file within it. Once ther, press F8, and click on 'Rebuild Geometry'. Next, save the map. Now it should run properly. Failure to follow these instructions will cause the map to be entirely under water, and you cannot survive.
Flotsam and Jetsam is a huge, ambitious map which features new texture and music additions. KodeMuse is a visionary map author, and it shows clearly in this level. The story is clever, and fun to uncover. You are inside of a spaceship, which grows more unusual as your journey progresses. The variety of locales is incredible, and some of the rooms are unique in design, and interesting to admire. The map sprawls out over an incredible amount of space, though most of it is rather empty and lacking in depth. The end of the map features a very creative and fun scripted sequence which really impressed me. Translator messages are used well to keep the story moving along, as well as throwing in a few bits of humor. The main trouble with the map, is that it is bursting with variety and potential, most of which is never properly developed. There are ideas enough for 3 or 4 maps, but without the proper developement of the ideas, the experience is lacking. Action sequences are too far apart, and barring one or two exceptions, are not very challenging. What it boils down to, is that the map seems like an exhibition of the potential the author has, but it never lives up to that potential. If you don't mind fixing the bug, and want to take a look at the first creation by an author that will likely make some very excellent maps in the future, then I recommend playing this map.
