MINUSES SUMMARY
Marty has constructed a great many spectacular Q2 maps, and has now turned a clean page, inked up his pen, and authored his first Unreal effort. The Once Great Temple scores big points for it's atmosphere. The selected music perfectly compliments the wide open map and its numerous opportunities for exploration. The story slowly unfolds as you read passages in various Nali and Human journals. I really got a realistic feeling of sneeking around the area, looking for clues to the disappearance of my team. The landscape is nicely crafted, with many nice rock formations (though a few look a bit angular and unnatural), cliffs, and lakes. There are several dwellings to explore, and the Skaarj are very well placed among them. The action is very limited, and you should have little trouble finding your way to the maps centerpiece, the 'Great Temple' itself. The temple is well made, and by far the most visually appealing area of the level. Complaints include: a bridge that was apparently hovering in mid-air without any form of suspension, limited action, and doorways that were a bit too far off the ground, requiring you to jump through them. All told, it's a solid error free map, with a slow pace and good mysterious atmosphere. Action and challenge are limited, and the map would make an excellent introduction to a greater project. It's good to see Marty applying his talents to a new venue, and I hope to see more from him.
