MINUSES SUMMARY
Rajal Castle begins wonderfully. Good use of music and ambient sounds set the mood, and the player's interest is piqued by use of journals and the Translator. After a fight (which, if you place yourself correctly can be easily won), you emerge and get your first glimpse of Rajal Castle. It is beautifully constructed both inside and out. Some creative architecture, and decent lay-out give the feel of being inside a large, spacious environment. There is plenty of action, and the fights are very challenging. Unfortunately, the story gives way to action, and I felt that more could have (should have) been done with it. There is a bit of an uneven gameplay flow created by giving the player several heavy weapons, not quite the right distribution of ammo, and health that could have been placed more effectively. I found the end to be odd and somewhat vague, as all the cells open up, but I'm not sure why... (kill the Skaarj and the cells open?), and then it's over quite abruptly. However, the map does link you to the Nyleve Falls map of the full-game, providing some sense of flow. All-in-all, a great first effort by Jeffery. The map is a pleasure to admire, has some good action, and a well created eerie atmosphere.
